The Division of Energy & Fuels promotes and advances energy-related research, development, and education to help address the world's energy and chemical challenges. We connect researchers across academia, government, and industry to accelerate progress in energy chemistry — from the fuels of today to the sustainable energy technologies of tomorrow.

Our history
ENFL's roots reach back through more than a century of ACS fuel science. The Division was formed in the early 2000s from the merger of two historic divisions — the Division of Fuel Chemistry (FUEL) and the Division of Petroleum Chemistry (PETR) — uniting deep expertise in fuel chemistry, petrochemistry, and energy research under a single banner. That heritage of recognizing excellence runs deep: the Division's R. A. Glenn Award has honored outstanding meeting papers since 1956.
Symposia & awards
Each year ENFL organizes 20+ technical symposia at ACS National Meetings and celebrates achievement through honors such as the Henry H. Storch Award in Energy Chemistry — named for the physical chemist whose pioneering work on coal chemistry and catalysis helped shape the field — along with lectureships and student awards.
