2016 Jonathan P. Mathews 08-2016 Mathews, Jonathan P. The Pennsylvania State University Contribution to the science/profession: Recognized for a passion for coal science, he has advanced coal science internationally and is noted for characterization and capturing structural diversity within large-scale atomistic representations of coal/chars and their use. Contribution to the ACS community: Served as inaugural Co-Chair (2012) of the Division of Energy and Fuels, aided in the merger process, and was a champion of the retention of preprints. Also has served as a long-standing Director of Membership (2003present) for the Division of Fuel Chemistry (now Energy and Fuels) and a frequent reviewer for coal-related research.
