The 2024 recipient of the ENFL Mid-Career Award is Professor Jingbo Louise Liu, from the Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), and she is also a faculty affiliate at the Texas A&M Energy Institute. Prof Liu leads a research group that is focused on the design and evaluation of novel materials for energy storage. This includes materials for fuel cells, CO2 capture & conversion, Li batteries, supercapacitors, and environmental applications with higher storage or trapping capacities relative to existing designs. Taking her work in other directions, she introduced new means of medical, disinfection applications, and forensic science through collaboration with the U.S. Air Force. Dr Liu has authored/co-authored more than 160 multiple books and book chapters, as well as peer-reviewed journal articles. She presented more than 180 talks at professional conferences, universities, and other venues. Prof Liu teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in material sciences and chemistry. At TAMUK, she initiated a new certificate in nanoscience and engineering and extensively developed graduate courses in nanoscience, advanced materials, and environmental chemistry. Prof Liu simultaneously maintains a range of contributions to ACS and the ENFL division. She has served as Division Chair and Councillor, and was the driving force behind a number of new initiatives during COVID that sought to keep the ENFL community active. Dr Liu's awards include elected member as the corresponding secretary of the Texas Academy of Science, Fellowships of the ACS, Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Linnean Society of London. She was selected as E. Ann Nalley Regional Award for Volunteer Service 2023 (Southwest Region of ACS), named Women of the Year by the Texas Diversity Council in 2023, and one of 12 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (2021).
