Call for Papers - Subsurface Energy Solutions: Chemistry for a Diversified Energy Future

The Energy and Fuel Division gladly invites you to the symposium “Subsurface Energy Solutions: Chemistry for a Diversified Energy Future.” This symposium will take place during the ACS Spring 2027 Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana (March 21–25, 2027). The deadline for abstracts is Sept. 30, 2024 (see instructions at maps.acs.org).

We invite experimental, computational, and integrated contributions across the breadth of the field, including:

  • Hydrocarbon extraction and recovery, including heavy-oil and bitumen recovery, shale gas, tight oil, and deepwater reservoirs
  • Methods for oil and gas recovery such as hydraulic fracturing, enhanced oil recovery chemistry, and acidization
  • Novel resources that include natural hydrogen, geothermal energy, and critical minerals recovery
  • Geologic carbon capture storage and CO₂ mineralization
  • Geochemistry and production chemistry associated with gas–rock–fluid interactions, fluid and brine chemistry, scaling and corrosion control, and caprock and wellbore integrity
  • Enabling tools that cut across in-situ and operando characterization, reservoir and thermodynamic modeling, and machine-learning-guided prediction of subsurface behavior
